I still think it's weird that it's going to be split into two parts. I've never actually read the book, but it seems like you could probably put a substantial amount of it into one movie if it was the length of one Lord of the Rings.

I think, in staying consistent with their other HP adaptations, Warner Bros. and the director want the movie to be around 2 hours each. BUT, because of the significant length of the novel and the amount of important events, they chose to split it in two parts.
It's really quite brilliant. They get to be a little more faithful to the source material, AND they get a huge chance to make as much money as possible.
